March 24, 2016—Starting April 4, guests will get a re-invented cinematic experience complete with new 4K digital state-of-the-art projection system, sound, screen and seating when The Henry Ford Giant Screen Experience opens. The upgrades to the Giant Screen Experience were designed by D3D Cinema, who installed the new dual Christie 4K digital projection with MasterImage 3-D technology, the QSC audio system and new MDI premium silver screen for exceptional resolution and brightness. The system features the first museum-based ultra-high resolution 4K projection system in the greater Detroit area.

March 23, 2016—It is with great sadness that we share that Craig Blower, COO of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in San Diego, passed away on March 16 at the age of 63 after a three-year battle with lung cancer. Those who knew Craig personally or through his blog, where he chronicled his battle, know he faced it with great honesty, indomitable optimism, and a marvelous sense of humor.

March 23, 2016—Liberty Science Center is pleased to announce that Jennifer Chalsty, a former high school teacher, has made a generous $5M gift to the Science Center to fund the creation of the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. Her gift—the single largest gift that LSC has ever received from an individual—will provide for the conversion of the IMAX Dome Theater from film to digital, the addition of software and hardware necessary for the theater to also function as a planetarium, the replacement of the screen, and the refurbishing of the theater. The target date for opening the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium is December 2017.

March 16, 2016—IMAX Corp. today launched an ambitious corporate social responsibility initiative, "Big Picture," as an extension of its core mission to educate, entertain and inspire movie audiences globally. The wide-ranging campaign (#IMAXBigPicture) will leverage the power of film to promote awareness of and appreciation for the "big picture," the understanding that the actions we take in our daily lives can significantly impact the future of the planet. Under the initiative, IMAX has partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) specifically to address the host of environmental, societal and economic issues facing society as a whole.

March 10, 2016—Giant Screen Films (GSF) and BBC Earth announced today that they will partner with Golden Gate 3D on
Cuba (working title), a new large format film about the unique island nation. The film, produced by San Francisco’s Golden Gate 3D, will be distributed globally by GSF. Cuba will be produced in association with BBC Earth, bringing the award-winning natural history filmmaker Neil Nightingale (
Walking with Dinosaurs,
One Life,
Tiny Giants,
Wild Africa) on board as Executive Producer. BBC Earth will also support the marketing and promotion of the film. Production is currently underway with a target release in early 2017.

March 1, 2016—The Canadian Museum of History theater is changing its name from IMAX Theatre to CINÉ+ in anticipation of a newly acquired digital laser film projector. “We can no longer call it IMAX Theatre because we are no longer affiliated with IMAX,” said Michèle Canto, director of marketing and business operations at the museum. The theater will relaunch on March 25 with a Barco digital projector, which will run only on the theatre’s flat screen, not on its dome. Read the full article from The Ottawa Citizen here.
