May 22, 2014—The Laser Illuminated Projector Association (LIPA) applauds the efforts of the dedicated scientists of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) for the May 16 publication of IEC 60825-1:2014, also known as "Edition 3." This standard acknowledges, among many other updates, that laser illuminated projectors (LIPs) should be classified the same way as lamp-based projectors; rather than as laser light show products. This action effectively acknowledges that the light emitted from LIPs is unlike that of collimated laser beams used in light shows or other direct laser beam products.

May 21, 2014—In support of its institutional theatre network, IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX, TSX: IMX) today announced the creation of the IMAX Original Film Fund (Fund) to co-finance a portfolio of 10 original large-format films. The Fund, which will be capitalized at up to $50 million, will finance an ongoing supply of educational documentaries that push the envelope of traditional documentary filmmaking for a new generation of moviegoers.

May 20, 2104—When a crowd gathered at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk April 17 to hear Patricia Wright speak about the lemurs of Madagascar, she and they did not know she was soon headed for a great honor. Last week, she was named the winner of the 2014 Indianapolis Prize, which is awarded by the Indianapolis Zoo every two years to a person who advances animal conservation initiatives. Wright, a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island, N.Y., is featured in the new IMAX film, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar, which is playing at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s IMAX theater. May 14, 2014—IMAX Corporation and Formula Kino, one of Russia's leading exhibition chains, have announced an agreement to install three IMAX® theatres in new construction projects across Russia. Under the terms of the agreement IMAX theatres will be installed in Moscow and Novokuznetsk, with IMAX's next-generation laser digital projection technology to be added to a new complex in Moscow expected to open in 2015, marking IMAX's first laser system deal in the country.
