December 21, 2020—The Virginia Air & Space Science Center reopens Dec. 18 after being closed since Sept. 1 for renovations. It also has a new name. Robert Griesmer, executive director and CEO, said the word “science" has been added to the former “Virginia Air & Space Center” to reflect the center’s increased focus on education in science, math and technology.

December 15, 2020—From Colleen Dilenschneider at IMPACTS Experience: There’s finally good news on the pandemic horizon! The US is planning to begin its coronavirus vaccine rollout. Research shows that people are notably gearing up to visit cultural entities such as museums, zoos, aquariums, and performing arts organizations with gusto in the next six months or longer...Intentions to visit cultural entities in 2021 have dramatically increased since the announcement of the upcoming coronavirus vaccination. But the first quarter of the new year may not be easy...the American public’s intent to return to leisure activities is strong. For this reason, the key takeaway from the research is that people likely plan to attend–at elevated levels–after they are vaccinated.

December 14, 2020—Stephen Amezdroz's Koala will be the first giant screen film shot with the Blackmagic 12K camera. The film is scheduled to be released in 2022 and will be distributed by MacGillivray Freeman Films. The camera has a digital film resolution of 12,288 x 6480 through a 12K Super 35 Sensor that has 14 stops of dynamic range, and combines 80 megapixels per frame with new colour science. https://bit.ly/34btR0y

November 30, 2020—Following ten months of closure to allow for a major revamp, the Science Museum’s popular IMAX cinema returns to cement its place as Europe’s leading destination for film fans. Bringing together IMAX 70mm film and next-generation IMAX with Laser alongside the museum’s incredible objects, the newly named IMAX: The Ronson Theatre will present a unique and truly immersive story-telling experience. Opening on Wednesday 9 December, the IMAX will launch with the UK premiere of BBC Earth’s highly anticipated documentary Antarctica 3D, narrated by Academy Award®-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch and distributed by SK Films.

November 25, 2020—SK Films and BBC Earth Natural History Unit announce the release of their upcoming documentary, Antarctica, which will be narrated by Academy Award® nominee actor, Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is set to open in select giant screen theaters and museums in 2021. Trailer premieres on November 25.

November 20, 2020—The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s IMAX Theater in Connecticut will reopen Thanksgiving weekend for seven weeks of spectacular films—including the holiday classic The Polar Express—in a memorable giant screen finale. The theater has been closed by the pandemic since March 13 and is slated for demolition in 2021 to make way for a federal railroad bridge replacement project. To send the theater out in glory, The Maritime Aquarium will use the theater’s final seven weeks to present as many as 22 fan-favorite movies from past three decades. Special COVID protocols include reduced theater capacity and enhanced cleanings between shows.

November 3, 2020—We are sad to share the news that Greg Andorfer, Emmy Award-winning producer and former Executive Director/CEO of Baltimore's Maryland Science Center, died on October 29. He was 69. His work won five Emmys and was recognized internationally in many mediums, including museums, film, public television, radio, and educational programs and publications.  He produced the giant screen film Human Body (in partnership with the Discovery Channel, The Science Museum of London, and the British Broadcasting Corp.) and was the Executive Producer of the film Dinosaurs Alive! for the Science Center and New York’s American Museum of Natural History.
