The “Science and Technology Section” of the 9th Beijing International
Film Festival & CSTM Popular Science Film Panorama was successfully
concluded on May 5, 2019, after the completion of the Film Panorama, popular
science activities, awards selections, exhibition exchanges, and academic forum.
The Festival provided a perfect interpretation of the theme “Film makes science
and technology more wonderful.”
The month-long Film Panorama presented a collection of premium films
from around the world, including 31 special effect films, 12 sci-fi films, and
6 scientist-themed films, and fully embodied the integration of films, science
& technology, and culture. During the Film Panorama, the 595 screenings of
special effect films attracted 46,200 people.
The Science Popularization featured sessions and dialogue with
audiences, scientists, film critics, science popularization promoters, and
filmmaking teams.
During the Masterpiece Appraisal and Selection, 200 public judges
selected outstanding films in accordance with the selection rules. Then, five
experts conducted a review of the films and selected the Best Audience Recommendation
Film, the Best Scientific Communication Film, the Best Creative Film, the Best Special
Effect Design Film and the Best Domestic Film, which are Explore Mars 1001,
Great Barrier Reef, VOYAGER: the Never-Ending Journey, and Wild Savanna respectively.
The Exhibition and Exchanges and Academic Forum, which were held at the
China Science and Technology Museum from April 14-16, attracted 190
representatives from 54 Chinese theaters and 35 domestic and overseas
companies. During the Exhibition and Exchanges, meetings of the Professional
Committee of Special Effect Theater for Chinese Association of Natural Science
Museums, the Special Effect Film Development Forum, the Scientist Film Creation
and Promotion Seminar, and more were held, and activities such as 4D seat
promotion, exhibition exchange, theater party, etc., were conducted. At the
exhibition, 21 science popularization film and equipment makers presented their
products and 7 well-known manufacturers exhibited their state-of-the-art 4D
special effect seats with 3-degree-of-freedom electric cylinders, which are
aimed at meeting the demands of science popularization theaters and special
effect film market and building up an exchange and transaction platform for
suppliers and buyers. Enthusiastic and highly efficient exchanges were made
during the events, which were fully affirmed by the participants.
