May 21, 2015—IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) today announced it will be honored by CineEurope with the 2015 CineEurope Award for Achievement Through Innovation. The Award recognizes IMAX’s efforts in pioneering entertainment technology that has set the standard of excellence for premium cinematic experiences. IMAX will receive the Award on June 25 at the CineEurope Conference to be held from June 22 to 25 in Barcelona.

Andrew Sunshine, Co-Managing Director of CineEurope stated, “We are extremely happy to recognize IMAX with this honor at this year’s convention.  IMAX continues to be known as a leader in the motion picture industry through its innovation and vision. The Company deserves tremendous accolades for its accomplishments and for its passion and commitment to the motion picture industry.”

Since the Company’s beginning in large-format documentary filmmaking and the development of entertainment technology, IMAX has continued to create new ways of improving the movie-going experience and pushing the boundaries of filmmaking. Now, more than 45 years later, IMAX is a trusted partner to all of the major Hollywood studios, the most acclaimed filmmakers, and world-leading exhibitors. With 940 theatres spanning 63 countries, the Company’s worldwide presence is a testament to its longstanding commitment to innovation.

“Our imagination has never been limited by technology, but rather has inspired new technologies that have redefined how millions have experienced movies. This sense of creativity and curiosity upon which IMAX was founded continues to fuel our passion for innovation today,” said IMAX CEO, Richard L. Gelfond. “From filmmakers capturing their creative vision with our cameras to the presentation of their vision with our projection systems, IMAX has pioneered technologies that span the entire life cycle of moviemaking.

IMAX is more than just a technology company, we are ingrained throughout the creative process—blending art with science to help deliver an immersive experience filmmakers are looking to achieve and audiences worldwide crave. For these efforts, we are deeply honored to be recognized by CineEurope.”

IMAX continues its legacy of innovation with the recent launch of its next-generation laser projection and sound technology. IMAX with laser represents a quantum leap forward in cinema technology—providing audiences with the sharpest, brightest, clearest and most vivid digital images ever, combined with a whole new level of immersive audio. With more filmmakers leveraging the IMAX format, the Company also recently introduced its next-generation 2D digital camera, the IMAX®/ARRI digital camera. The new camera will be used by filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo to film parts of Marvel’s Captain America Civil War, as well as the next installments of the Avengers franchise—Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2, the latter which will mark the first-ever Hollywood feature to be captured entirely with IMAX® cameras.

“Innovation is hard-wired into who we are as a Company and everything we do,” said Andrew Cripps, President, IMAX EMEA. “Today, we continue to bring exciting innovations to the forefront, which prompts consumers to leave their homes and experience films in a premium cinema environment. The immersive IMAX format has been embraced by filmmakers, exhibitors and audiences worldwide. We are grateful for this support and thank CineEurope for this prestigious recognition. We look forward to delivering more game-changing technologies that will continue to raise the bar on the movie-going experience for years to come.”
