September 1, 2020—Bob Perkins, CEO of Destination Cinema Inc., has announced the sale of the IMAX Victoria Theatre to the Royal BC Museum effective August 28, 2020.
Destination Cinema, in partnership with the Royal BC Museum, built the IMAX Theatre in 1998 and has successfully managed its operation since then, establishing it as one of the most consistent, high-performing theatres in the industry.
“IMAX Victoria has been an industry leader, maintaining a pristine environment, investing in the latest laser technology, and creating an enviable membership program and fan base,” said David Keighley, IMAX Chief Quality Guru. “We are always pleased to visit the theatre and look forward to our next trip.”
The acquisition of the theatre has been in process since June of 2019. The theatre will be operated as usual with the current management team, including Theatre Director Paul Wild.
“It has been an incredible 22 years,” said Perkins. “We have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with the museum and we are pleased to leave them with a theatre and a team that are well positioned to take IMAX Victoria forward with the same skill, commitment, and passion for the product and the audience.”
All contact information for the theatre and the staff remain the same.
