In Memoriam: Toni Myers

February 19, 2019—We are heartbroken to share the news that Toni Myers passed away on Monday, February 18. A true pioneer and a visionary filmmaker, Toni had been involved in the giant screen cinema industry since its very beginning as editor, writer, producer, and director. Her astonishing, multiple award-winning filmography shows remarkable breadth and includes A Beautiful Planet (2016), Hubble 3D (2010), Under the Sea (2009), Deep Sea (2006), Space Station 3D (2002), Mission to Mir (1996), L5: First City in Space (1996), Destiny in Space (1994), Journey to the Planets (1993), Rolling Stones: At the Max (1991), Blue Planet (1990), The Dream Is Alive (1985), Hail Columbia! (1982), Nomads of the Deep (1979), Ocean (1977), and North of Superior (1971), one of the very first films made in the IMAX format.

GSCA Names Toni Myers and Jonathan Barker Recipients of the 2018 Outstanding Achievement Award

August 28, 2108—The Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) is pleased to announce that Toni Myers and Jonathan Barker have been named recipients of the GSCA 2018 Outstanding Achievement Award. A visionary and pioneering filmmaker, Toni Myers has graced the giant screen cinema industry since its beginning as editor, writer, producer, director, and even sometimes narrator. Jonathan Barker was a world leader in 3D film production and distribution, specializing in IMAX®/giant screen films that combine human drama and natural history discoveries. Both awards will be presented during the GSCA Achievement Awards on Friday, September 21, at the Westin Chattanooga as part of the annual GSCA International Conference and Trade Show.

How NASA Astronauts Shot the IMAX Film A Beautiful Planet in Space

April 29, 2016—To capture images of the planet for the new IMAX film A Beautiful Planet, as well as the daily lives of the astronaut teams stationed at the ISS, crews rocketed into Earth’s orbit and joined the space station with a digital 4K Canon Cinema EOS C500 video camera and a Canon EOS-1D C DSLR, which they used to take still images and get video footage of specific points on the planet below. Using a semi-formal shot-list of specific earthly targets to capture, the astronauts kept in constant contact with Myers and cinematographer James Neihouse, who coordinated the shoot on the ground with three different ISS crews. Jennifer Lawrence to Narrate A Beautiful Planet

February 22, 2016—A new IMAX 3D space movie promises to let you "experience Earth like never before." A Beautiful Planet, narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, features footage of our home world as captured by astronauts on board the International Space Station.
