GSCA 2025 Film Awards
Eligibility & Submission Guidelines
To be considered for the 2025 GSCA Film Awards:
- Screening Window: Films must have been released and shown at a GSCA member theater between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025.
- Early Release Exception: If a film’s first public screening occurred between April 1 and May 31, 2025, the distributor may choose to submit it for this year or next year’s awards.
- Re-edited Films: Films originally released before 1999 that have been re-edited are eligible for submission.
- GSCA Membership: Both the film’s producer and distributor must be current GSCA members.
- Category Selection: Films must be submitted individually for each award category. No film is automatically eligible.
- Length Requirement: All films must be under 60 minutes, except for entries in the Best Film – Feature Length category.
- Submission Fee: There is no fee to submit films for awards consideration.
Submission Process
Submit Film Titles
Distributors must submit film titles for each category they wish to compete in.
Provide Supporting Materials
After submission, GSCA will request content from distributors:

- Video links (up to 3 minutes total) that highlight why the film should be considered for each specific category.
- Separate links may be provided for different categories. Be sure to label each link with the intended award category.
- Key art and film title graphics in high-resolution JPEG format (300 dpi or higher).
- Film credits as they should appear on the ballot and during the awards ceremony.
- Optional supplemental materials, such as behind-the-scenes videos (up to 2 minutes each) or PDF documents, explaining technical elements like VFX or sound design.
Ballot Distribution
Voting ballots will be sent to the designated contact at each GSCA member organization.
Winners will be announced at the 2025 GSCA International Conference in September.
Award Categories
- Best Film – Short Subject
- Best Film – Feature Length
- Best Film for Lifelong Learning: Recognizing films that:
- Offer new insights or challenge misconceptions
- Are engaging and thought-provoking
- Stretch viewers’ interests and expand their knowledge
- Appeal to diverse, multinational audiences
- Include educational resources to support further learning
- Best Visual Effects: Evaluates how essential and well-executed the visual effects are in supporting the film’s story.
- Best Cinematography: Recognizes outstanding camera work and visual composition.
- Best Sound Design: Focuses on sound elements beyond music, including dialogue, sound effects, and final mix.
- Best Original Score: Honors the film’s instrumental score created specifically to support its dramatic tone and storytelling.
Awards Ceremony Video Materials
For inclusion in the Awards Ceremony highlight reel, please submit:
- Trailer or excerpt to be edited into a montage
- Resolution: Preferred – DCI 4K (4096 x 2160); Minimum – 1920 x 1080
- Framerate: 24fps or 23.97fps (no high frame rate footage)
- Video Codec: DNxHR HQ, ProRes 422, or DI equivalent
- Audio: PCM
- File format: .MOV or .MXF
- Dynamic Range: SDR
