Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, Upgrading to IMAX with Laser
October 28, 2022—The Goodman IMAX Dome Theater at Sci-port Discovery Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, is closed for construction to replace the current IMAX film projection system to IMAX with Laser. The IMAX Dome will show major motion pictures starting in November, such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of the Water, in addition to continuing to offer educational documentaries. Ancient Caves, by Oceanic Research Group and MacGillivray Freeman Films, is the first film scheduled for November 2022.

September 19, 2022—The Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater was closed September 15-16 for a monumental undertaking: the replacement of its six-story tall, 89- foot-wide screen.
September 12, 2022—After years in limbo, the fate of the IMAX theater in downtown Des Moines is clear: It will not re-open. The Blank IMAX Dome Theater at the Science Center of Iowa has been closed for more than four years since it was hit with flood waters. The 2018 storm caused millions of dollars in damage to the theater's specialized equipment and led to a lawsuit over insurance claims. The board of directors directed staff to think of other ways to use the IMAX space, but the board ultimately decided it should not be used as a theater. Science Center leadership is still finalizing plans, and they do not expect to have an announcement for a few years.
September 7, 2022—The Board of Directors of Marbles Kids Museum is pleased to announce it has selected Jonathan Frederick as the museum’s new Chief Executive Officer. Frederick was selected through a national search conducted in partnership with the nonprofit consulting firm moss+ross. He joined Marbles at the end of June, replacing CEO Sally Edwards, who announced earlier this year that she would be stepping down, after leading the museum’s first 15 years.
September 7, 2022—Alan Hanstein has been appointed as the executive director for the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee (CLCTLH). Hanstein took the helm on June 10, 2022. The educational center is the K-12 outreach arm for the joint engineering college. Hanstein was chosen from a handful of candidates after a national search. In the new role, he will be responsible for all aspects of center operation, including its IMAX Theatre, Planetarium Theatre, Camp Challenger, educational school programs (field trips), lecture series, public programs and more. Hanstein has served on the CLCTLH board for nearly 20 years and is a past chair. He succeeds Michelle Personette, who stepped down in February after two decades in the position.
September 6, 2022—At 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2022, the opening ceremony of The 12th Beijing International Film Festival Science and Technology Section & CSTM Popular Science Film Panorama was grandly opened at the 4D Cinema of the China Science and Technology Museum. More than 20 media, including Beijing Radio and Television, People's Daily, and Science and Technology Daily, reported on site.
September 1, 2022—It took Stephen Low three years to complete, but he is now ready to unveil Train Time, which follows a BNSF Railway freight train along its journey across North America. Train Time will make its U.S. premiere Saturday at the Carnegie Science Center’s Rangos Giant Cinema. It will run there through March 12 and serve as a companion piece to the famous Miniature Railroad & Village showcasing landmarks around Western Pennsylvania.
