April 23, 2023—Last week Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario Science Centre will move to Ontario Place as an anchor tenant. The move is part of the redevelopment plan of Ontario Place as a world-class, year-round destination. The science centre’s new home will be in a custom-built, state-of-the-art facility, as well as in the preserved and upgraded iconic Cinesphere and Pod complex.
The plan includes beaches, green space, trails, and a Live Nation concert venue. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with an opening slated for 2028. In the meantime, Ontario Science Centre remains open at the current Don Mills and Eglinton location and continues to welcome visitors, with an exciting lineup of new exhibitions and films coming in the near future.
The Ontario Science Centre website states, “We are looking forward to working with our staff, visitors and communities over the coming years to imagine what the new Ontario Science Centre will become. This is a wonderful opportunity to set us on an exciting path where we will continue to inspire curiosity, innovation, and discovery for generations to come.”
